Thank you for the outstanding response to the start of our efforts at beginning and/or encouraging familydevotionals last Sunday.  I wanted to take a few minutes this morning to go over a few things with you as briefly as possible.  imgres-1

First, we are providing you materials for the next 10 weeks. We want feedback for we want this to be helpful and an encouragement for you to do the very best thing you can do for your family.  NOTHING will make an impact like times like these together.

1. Start Now! I don't believe the Christian family exists that does not plan to have a family devotional time. BUT life crowds in and these times are crowded out.  THIS is the time! Start now, it will never be easier.  Do not wait until your children are school-aged before setting aside time for family devotions. But even if they are already teens it's not too late to begin.  NOTHING is harder than starting. Sign the family pledge and get on it tonight.  satan will put ever excuse and opposition to this in front of you he can - that's how bad he wants you to not do this.

2. Pick the Right Time of Day. This will vary from family to family. For some of you, morning will work well, for some who home school some other time in the day. I'd say for most folks it will be in the evening - maybe while you are still at the supper table or before bedtime.

3. Have a Plan. The guide we are giving you is just that, a guide. Our plan was to provide two more traditional devotional times, one time each week focused on prayer and two that are more family activity oriented.  Just a standard lecture time will not be efficient for most families. But if you want to stick with it you need a plan. If you leave the method to chance, you probably will not be successful.

4. Keep it Short! If you are just getting started or you have one to five year old children this is second only to getting started.  It is not realistic to expect your one and four year olds to sit through a 20 minute lecture on the indwelling mode of the Holy Spirit. Aim for about five minutes of discussion. Even small children can sit still for this short period of time. If your toddler can't this is great training for the future.

5. Include Prayer. There are few things as precious as hearing your young child talk to God. Teach them early that they can talk to the Lord.

6. Make it Fun: We are trying to provide some fun things your children can learn from and that will tie your family closer together.

If you have any questions or feedback please let Scott or me know.

IF YOU WERE not present Sunday we have about 40 or so of the binders we gave each family in the back at the gymatorium. Get yours Wednesday. If you want me to email you this week's guide let me know.

I love you all and want great things for your family.
